 INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONNECTING
 MODEL 1700 TO YOUR RAILROAD

This unit has been tested prior to shipment, and is in working order. Read instructions through before connecting. Your order contains a   handheld  walkaround   with  10'  coiled cord,  and  an  Adapter Box  to connect  between your  transformer   and  the  track  with a piece of hook-and-loop fastener to hang the handheld unit. This is the basic system. More hook-and-loop fasteners  can be  purchased from Radio Shack  (#64-2360 or 63-2345)  for attaching to the layout when not in use.

With  power  off,  connect  two  (2)  wires  (16 gauge  or  larger)   from  the  transformer   to  the  two  (2)  screws   marked  "TO TRANS"  on  the  Adapter  Box  observing  the  wiring diagram  on last  page for all common ("C") connections. See Fig.1   NOTE: Any transfromer may be used with a minimum  of  14V and a  maximum  of  24V,  with  enough current capability  to handle  the load. All-Trol  also supplies an 18V  12A transformer (TR2) for  $120.

Fig. 1

Connect the  wires  from the  track to  the two  (2)  screws  marked  "TO TRACK" on  the  Adapter  Box.  Again  observing  the wiring  diagram for all  common ("C") connections.  Only the terminals that provide  14 to  24 V.A.C. (fixed or variable) on the transformer should be used and common  ("C")  connections are observed.   See Fig.  1

Fig. 2

Plug the handheld unit into the phone jack on either side of the Adapter Box. Now your ready to operate.  See  Fig. 2  and operating instructions below.

Fig.  3

This  system  is  expandable  by  purchasing  as  many  Remote  Stations (RS8) as required for the number of control points needed on your railroad. The Remote Stations are interconnected with variable length cables   C6XX  (XX  being  the length)  in 5' increments.  See Fig.  3

Connect one end of the cable C6XX to the Adaptor box and connect the other end of the same cable to one of the connectors  on the remote station (RS8) and repeat from station to station. The connector on the front of the station is where the handheld  walkaround  would normally plug in. If the cable has to go in two directions, simply use one of the remote stations  (RS8)  as a  junction  point  by  using the  connecter on the front to go in the opposite direction. See Fig.  3 for cable connections. Any combination of cable connections are interchangeable.

Fig.  4

The cables can be interconnected to achieve longer distances, with modular couplings (MC6).  See  Fig.  4

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR MODEL 1700

1 - Turn THROTTLE control to minimum position  (full CCW - Counter-Clockwise) on  handheld and  set  the  MOMENTUM control to minimum (full CCW).
2 - Turn  power  on  and  advance  your   transformer   to  full  on   position.  You   can  use   14  to  24VAC  to  operate  your  new  remote  walkaround.
3 - With  the  MOMENTUM  control   off   (CCW)   you  have  direct  control of  the  THROTTLE.  Advance   the  THROTTLE  control,  and  the  locomotive  will  begin  to  move and move  faster as  the   THROTTLE  is  advanced  to  full  speed.  Turn  THROTTLE  to  minimum.

Note:  If the switch lever on the loco is in the "alternate
direction" position, then the use  the   DIR/PAN
button   will  effect  direction change  as  well  as
turning the  THROTTLE control up and down.

In the past when you  operated  with  your  transformer,  you  would  change directions  by  moving the  DIRECTION  lever,
and   then  release  it,  and  back  again  to  change direction.  With  the  handheld   unit  you  simply  depress  the  DIR/PAN   (DIRECTION/PANIC) stop button twice to change directions. The  DIR/PAN  button is also used for  PANIC  (emergency)
stops when the MOMENTUM control is in use.

4 - Set  the  MOMENTUM  control  to  #2.  Advance  THROTTLE   to desired speed. Power  will be applied to  the locomotive automatically. Turn THROTTLE off and the loco will slow down automatically to a stop.
5 - Set  the MOMENTUM control to #2.  Advance  THROTTLE  to desired speed. While the train is running,  depress the  BRK  button and the train will  gradually  slow  to a  stop.  Releasing  the  button,  will  allow   the  train  to  resume  acceleration  to  the  speed set  by  the   THROTTLE.  The  MOMENTUM   can be  set to any  level.
6 - The unit has two push buttons on the face of the handheld. One for the WHISTLE  and one for the BELL, in  newer  locomotives.  For older type  locomotives,  depressing  the  WHISTLE  or  BELL  button  will  blow  the whistle.
7 - The  L.E.D.  (Light  emmiting  diode)  indicator  in  the  handheld  will  be  GREEN  when  the  power  is on.   YELLOW for running trains, and RED for an overload (exceeding 12 amps). To reset the  overload, push  the  DIR/PAN  button, or turn the  THROTTLE  to zero  (CCW).  If the MOMENTUM is applied the reset  will not happen immediately).

CAUTION: Plugging two remote handheld units
into the  same cab  circuit  will affect
          the operation.

Our hope is that you have many enjoyable hours of operating fun and pleasure.
